چکیده

Objective: To validate modified mallampati test with addition of thyromental distance and sternomental in prediction difficult endotracheal intubation adults presenting surgical emergency. Study Deign: Prospective, single-blinded observational study Place duration: Department Anesthesia intensive care Nishtar Hospital, Multan from August 2021 to January 2022 one year duration. Methodology: A total 120 patients were included the study. Difficult was predicted by measuring following distance. Validation combining predictors assessed sensitivity, specificity, positive & negative predictive value. Contingency table 2x2was designed. Results: The sensitivity specificity this procedure 62.5% 80.0%, respectively. Validity all parameters predict shown IV. 25.0% 27.0%, Practical Implication: Endotracheal is a common pre-operative complication having potential lead poor post operative results. This will help anesthesiologists overcome problem reduce incidence complications routine practice. Conclusion: Specificity too high, validity combine mallampati, very high when compared alone. All three MMT, SMD TMD can be used collectively for assessment airway adult planned surgery under general anesthesia. Keywords: Validity, anaesthesia, Mallampati test, intubation, distance,

A comparison of Mallampati scoring, upper lip bite test and sternomental distance in predicting difficult intubation

Mallampati et al, proposed a grading system to anticipate difficult intubation, which considers visualization of faucial pillars, soft palate and base of uvula. 4 The upper lip bite test (ULBT) was proposed as a simple bed side technique by Khan et al, which involves the assessment of jaw subluxation and presence of buck teeth. 9 Savva et al, proposed sternomental distance (distance from the su...

Modified Mallampati test and thyromental distance as a predictor of difficult laryngoscopy in Thai patients.

BACKGROUND Preoperative evaluation of anatomical landmarks and clinical factors are important in the detection of patients at risk for difficult laryngoscopy. The modified Mallampati test (MMT) and thyromental distance (TMD) are commonly used for this purpose but there are controversies regarding their accuracy. OBJECTIVE The objective of the present study was to evaluate the accuracy of MMT ...

A Comparison between Modified Mallampati Test, Thyromental Distance, Upper Lip Bite Test and Neck Circumference for Predicting Difficult Intubation

Background: Various bedside screening tests are employed for the prediction of difficult intubation. In this study, we compared 4 bedside tests viz. the Modified Mallampati Test (MMT), the Thyromental Distance (TMD) measurement, the Upper Lip Bite Test (ULBT) and the Neck Circumference (NC) measurement in terms of Sensitivity, Specificity, Positive Predictive Value and Negative Predictive Value...

An assessment of the ratio of height to thyromental distance compared to thyromental distance as a predictive test for prediction of difficult tracheal intubation in Thai patients.

BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE Preoperative evaluation is important in the detection of patients at risk for difficult tracheal intubation. Thyromental distance (TMD) is often used for these purposes, but its value as an indicator for difficult intubation is questionable, as it varies with patient size and body proportions. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate and compare the accuracies o...

The diagnostic value of the upper lip bite test combined with sternomental distance, thyromental distance, and interincisor distance for prediction of easy laryngoscopy and intubation: a prospective study.

BACKGROUND Accuracy of upper lip bite test (ULBT) has been compared with the Mallampati classification. In this study, we investigated whether the combination of the ULBT classification with sternomental distance (SMD), thyromental distance (TMD), and interincisor distance (IID) or a composite score can improve the ability to predict easy laryngoscopy and intubation compared with each test alon...
